What we design

01
Designed For Flexibility

Hardware that is designed to operate in the most extreme environments in a flexible manner. Our goal is to deliver a simple but effective system to meet the needs of our clients using fast but proven methods, delivering hardware that is delivered quickly but not sacrificing performance longevity.

02
Robotics & Mechanisms

Asteria strives to supply the most capable mechanism designs ever delivered to orbit. Applying lessons learned across previous projects, including NASA and DoD mechnaism designs, we strive to build and deliver mechanisms that will function well past their intended life cycles.

03
System Certification

End-to-end hardware certification for each specific mission need. Starting with end-to-end performance check and moving through a full certification envelope, Asteria's objective is to bridge the gap between old school full certification cycles and new agile build-fail-build cycles. Our hardware is tested and certified to each mission need using proven test methods that are applied and performed in more efficient ways, providing hardware that carries less risk but at lower cost. .

About Asteria Robotics

Bringing engineering flexibility to a complex field

We build the hardware that takes adaptable and innovative solutions beyond the atmosphere.

Asteria Robotics was founded on the principle that great space hardware needs to be adaptable from one mission to the next. Providing adaptable hardware results in increased flexibility in mission operations. This flexibility, coupled with our on-orbit and lunar permanence commitments, results in a robust system architecture designed not just for one mission, but for all of them. We work with government agencies and commercial operators to design flight-ready systems that are deployed and ready to perform when it counts.

Our team has worked across multiple programs with heritage in NASA, DoD, and commercial contracts. We utilize this experience to bring deep expertise across mechanical design, materials science, and systems engineering — with a process built around traceability, verification, and mission success.

What we work with

Lunar Mechanisms
LunaFlex™ Systems

Suite of 'dust tolerant' mechanisms and platforms that can be used for lunar ground systems, including dust tolerant structural attachment nodes, electrical connectors, and utility platforms for use with lunar landing systems, lunar habitats, and lunar rovers. Asteria factors in both engineering expertise and human factors into all designs, specializing in both remote unmanned and crewed EVA servicing.

On-Orbit Platforms
FlexBus™ Platform

Robotic servicing and deployment platform that is capable of outfitting custom micro-satellite buses in orbit via robotic servicing and standardized attachment interfaces. This method lowers launch cost for customers by removing basic satellite systems from their required launch mass. In cases where standard mission equipment (imaging, communication, etc) is required, Asteria can provide and deploy satellites to specific coordinates with no dedicated launches required.

Space Flight Hardware Certification
Design & Verification Expertise

Asteria prides itself with extensive knowledge and background in space flight hardware certification. Including compliance to standards such as SMC-S-016, NASA-STD-7012, NASA-STD-5017, NASA-STD-5019, NASA-STD-1008, AIAA-S-080, AIAA-S-081, AIAA-S-114. Asteria can provide mission specific tailoring certification on all hardware, as well as certification engineering services contracts.

Electrical Systems
Harnessing

Harnessing is the artery of any spacecraft. Often under prioritized and beyond schedule, Asteria strives to achieve effiencies in this sector of space flight. Building off other industries, Asteria works to cut the lead time of all electrical harnesses used in its hardware. This commitment leads to high quality units that meet applicable IPC standards for both IVA and EVA applications.

Founders & Leadership

Founder Name

Chelsea Lu

Co-Founder & CEO

Chelsea Lu, Co-founder and CEO of Asteria Robotics, brings more than a decade of legal and management experience across multiple commercial sectors, combining rigorous legal training with executive-level operational oversight. A licensed attorney since 2016, she has a foundation in commercial litigation where she led complex, high-exposure cases, managed teams, and drove strategy across negotiations, discovery, and client development. She now serves as in-house counsel for a diversified enterprise with a multi-entity structure and business lines spanning agriculture, energy, retail, and hospitality, where she leads corporate legal strategy, negotiates critical contracts, manages risk, and advises executive leadership across all business units. Her academic background—a Juris Doctor and a dual degree in Philosophy and Political Science from Texas A&M University—reinforces structured analysis, regulatory fluency, and disciplined decision-making. Chelsea applies this expertise to Asteria by aligning legal strategy with business execution, enabling the company to navigate complex regulatory environments, structure scalable commercial partnerships, and make independent, high-quality decisions across financial, operational, and strategic domains.

Founder Name

Shawn Schumacher

Co-Founder & COO

Shawn has more than a decade of experience supporting NASA, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security, developing and executing mixcsion-driven solutions in highly regulated environments. He has direct experience designing spaceflight hardware, including water reclamation systems and airlock vestibule air recovery systems, providing practical insight into life-support efficiency, resource recovery, and system integration. In his role as Senior Vice President of Government Solutions at MCS Government Services, he has led growth strategy and built scalable, technology-enabled organizations. This combination of hands-on design experience and large-scale execution supports Asteria’s ability to develop modular, high-reliability space infrastructure for commercial and government applications. Shawn has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (GBR) and an MBA from the University of Texas-Austin.

Founder Name

Brandon Shedd

Co-Founder & CTO

Since graduating with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Brandon has worked multiple engineering projects across varying industries. Brandon worked on robotic end effectors and common attachment points for satellite servicing systems. Brandon then transitioned over to human space flight serving as a senior manager on the EVA systems life support system.
